Elliott, retired professor of history, published the East-West Church and Ministry Report from his alma mater, Asbury University, Wilmore, Kentucky.

He earned a B.A. cum laude from Asbury University (1969) and an M.A. (1971) and Ph.D. (1974) in modern European and Russian history from the University of Kentucky.

He taught at Asbury University, Wilmore, Kentucky; Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois; Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama; and Southern Wesleyan University, Central, South Carolina.

At Wheaton College, Dr. Elliott served for 13 years as director of the Institute for East-West Christian Studies, and at Samford University, he served for six years as director of the Global Center at Beeson Divinity School.

pawns-of-yalta-coverDr. Elliott is the author of Pawns of Yalta: Soviet Refugees and America's Role in Their Repatriation (University of Illinois Press, 1982) and over 160 articles and reviews. He edited Christianity and Marxism Worldwide: An Annotated Bibliography and the East European Missions Directory and co-edited the East-West Christian Organizations Directory; Ethics in the Russian Marketplace: An Anthology; and Christian/Marxist Studies in U.S. Higher Education: A Handbook of Syllabi. He began publication of the East-West Church and Ministry Report in 1993 while teaching at Wheaton College.

Dr. Elliott has made numerous trips to Russia and Central and Eastern Europe since 1974. His travels have involved teaching; negotiating and leading a student exchange program with Moscow State University; helping launch a program of international adoption of special needs Russian orphans; hosting Moscow conferences on business ethics and the role of women in the church; on-site evaluations of Protestant seminaries in the former Soviet Union; as well as leading tour groups and six short-term missions working with Russian orphans. He also has taught at and led study groups to the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology, Kingston, Jamaica.

Dr. Elliott is a founding trustee of the Russian-American Institute (Moscow) and served from 1999 to 2009 as a trustee of Asbury University (Wilmore, KY).

He and his wife Darlene have four grown children adopted from Vietnam and Colombia and four grandchildren.
