About the Founding Editor (1993-2017)
Our Editor Emeritus, Dr. Mark R. Elliott, is a retired professor of history based in Wilmore, Kentucky. He earned a BA cum laude from Asbury University, Kentucky, and holds an MA and PhD in modern European and Russian history from the University of Kentucky. In addition to Asbury University, he taught at Wheaton College, Illinois; Samford University, Alabama; and Southern Wesleyan University, South Carolina. He is a member of the Free Methodist denomination.
Dr. Elliott is the author of Pawns of Yalta: Soviet Refugees and America’s Role in Their Repatriation (University of Illinois Press, 1982) in addition to more than 160 articles and reviews. He edited Christianity and Marxism Worldwide: An Annotated Bibliography (1988) and co-edited Christian/Marxist Studies in United States Higher Education: A Handbook of Syllabi (1991), Ethics in the Russian Marketplace: An Anthology (1992), and the directory East-West Christian Organizations (1993).
Since 1974 Dr. Elliott has made numerous trips to Russia, Ukraine, and Central and Eastern Europe. These have involved teaching; leading a student exchange program with Moscow State University; launching an international adoption program for special needs’ Russian orphans; hosting Moscow conferences on business ethics and the role of women in the church; providing on-site evaluations of Protestant seminaries; and leading tour groups and short-term missions supporting Russian orphans.
In 1993 Dr. Elliott founded our publication while at Wheaton College. Entitled the East-West Church and Ministry Report under his editorship, it received five Awards of Merit from the Evangelical Press Association.
